Byron I did read the Skate before and again this week.
I would think to read "First under the Pole also.Inertial Navigation and the Atomic made it possible. The Navigation is much more than the ADM. made it to be. I has sent to SINS school in VA.before reporting aboard the SSBN 602 Abraham Lincoln in 63. The school taught how the system worked and how to use the 3 Navigators on each sub.The Polaris subs SSBN'S went underwater for 2.5 months each patrol.Orders were to proceed undetected, this ment you could not surface. I was the lead chief and had 6 QM,s and 6 electronic ET's on the NAVIGATION DEPARTMENT. Every one had Top secrect clearance. even so only two were to work on navigation, Where we were, where we went was not to be known or remenbered. Even with 3 SINS we needed to monitor the SINS and correct, how is top secrect. we were not to surface, or make any noise,or transmission. Every one was hunting for us, We did have type 11 periscope that could measure 11 seconds of arc. I wonder what they have now?
