Clive tells us about the Great Arc in India…by a pretty amazing coincidence, I read this in Madras – at the Royal Meridien (!) hotel in GST Road (I wonder if this is a transposition of GTS), St Thomas Mount – and to increase the coincidences, this is within a mile or less of one of the prime meridians used for Indian mapping in those days.

Some of the Chennaites I have spoken to know about the Arc, most don’t. Not one has heard of the Great Hedge of India
