    Be careful with these "NASA reports" from circa 1970. NASA is a big bureaucracy today, with all the problems that follow, but back then, NASA was a VAST bureaucracy, and, after that sublime goal of landing astronauts on the Moon, the single most important goal they had was to produce reports. While plenty of this information is useful, there is far too much that was never subjected to any genuine skeptical analysis. In short, the NASA "stamp" is no guarantee of quality.

    And just for the record, I say this as a fan of space flight, a fan of manned space flight, and a fan of NASA. I am a FAN. But no matter what, we need to recognize that huge bureaucracies are necessarily self-serving and generally incapable of finding fault in their own product.
