    Ooops, yes; I admit to a case of northernhemispherocentrism; I
    should know better...
    
    I wanted to avoid the term 'meridian' since the question seemed
    to ask for some very basic definitions and I would probably have
    had to define 'meridian' before using it, so I tried to go the
    easier way.
    
    If I can find some time over the weekend I'll expand that collection
    of time scales a bit; there are a few interesting things to explain...
