    Ten years ago I made a Kamal called the Sunrule which used a fixed
    length chain, white plex, and a mirror in the center of the plex. The
    mirror was used to observe the users own eye to insure consistency and
    to function as a cross staff does cutting the angles in half. I also
    silk screaned onto the plex each degree of elevation up to 12 degrees
    for direct recording. The length of the chain was adjusted very
    slightly to allow for the distance from the center of the eye to the
    front of the eye. The final touch was to put a stop in the chain so
    that it could be pulled through from the back of the plex to double
    the degrees on the front. This device works pretty good but still
    requires a great deal of eye hand coordination. The main problem I had
    with the Sunrule was that it was hard to reproduce and harder to mass
    produce which takes it off the do it yourself project list. I will
    post a picture of the Sunrule along with a picture of the piloting
    version of the Trombone Kamal (using clear plex).
