Good to see the USCG teaching cel nav. The last time I was out on the north pier at St. Joseph, Michigan (last fall) I was seated in a canvas chair (no cup holder ;-) making observations when one of those magnificent beasts--a 47' motor lifeboat?--came by on its way out to the lake. The skipper slid the craft to about 40' from my position and joked from the bridge, "We don't use those any more." I replied, "At least you know what is it, does your crew?" Laughs all around. The day was as close to windless I've ever seen on Lake Michigan. Glass with a few cats paws now and again, so no action shots. And although clear, a difficult horizon. Bill B
