I am sure that they were much more practical back then as well and either
oral or in essay form.
I will say that the formula is a lot faster than doing the tabular
reduction. I didn't need to use the formulae, it just was much
quicker. I could have used 229 for the GC sailings as well if
need be.
I had 4 days to finish 10 exams for CM/Master. 3 had 90%
passing grades, one 85%, and the rest 70% if I remember correctly.
This of course was after passing all of the practical exams and tests at
the end of each of my classes which took about 20 weeks to complete.
Different times, different long splices.
