Todd,
before seperating the achromats in acetone I marked the outer edge of the pair to make sure I can reassemble them without turning one against the other out of the original position. The outer edge was perfectly smooth before seperation, so I build an auxiliary construction to make sure the lenses couldn't shift sideways while curing the glue. so the only alignment neede was to rotate the lenses against each other to make sur the marks were in line. No optical tools involved...
