    Re: Venus in daylight in southern latitudes
    From: David C

    Over the past week or two I have seen a very bright object in the evening sky. Two days ago it was about  twenty degrees or less from the moon. I cannot remember if venus can be used for lunars although I think that  the lunar - planet distance has to be much greater.

    Frank thanks for reminding me about daylight venus observations. Last time I tried (6 months ago?) the planet's altitide was low and it was difficut to see in the murk at low altitude. I checked a nautical almanc app on my phone and at 0300 UT today, which is  4pm local time (or 3 56pm LAT),  Venus's altitude will be 71° which confirms your advice (-;

    Looking out of the window as I type I can see lots of bright white and darkish white stuff racing past at an altitude of a few thousand feet. I will be lucky to see venus today but I will give it a go. I now have two activities to keep me busy. The local railway line  has been duplicated and new computer based signalling installed. There will be indications that I have not seen before. Cut-over has been delayed due to Covid and I am keenly waiting to see the new signals lit.........

    (Yes, I admit that I am a foamer but definitely not a frother.........)
