But I did not find any mentioning of Venus in his journal! Did he fail because of the foul weather? He does not mention any sngle observation from his observatory. Only during the travel. (I remember his name from Cook's journals, was not sure this is the same Wales). Of course, this Wales must be a trustworthy person. Amasingly he found the very same 10' as we did:-) "A North American Cold Water correction"? :-) Alex. He had to go in 1768 because after freeze-up, no ships could get in to Hudson's Bay. The Royal Society sent astronomers to several places around the globe to observe that particular transit in order to accurately measure the distance between the sun and earth. Wales later accompanied Cook on his 2nd circumnavigation as astronomer/navigator. His observations are trustworthy. > > Ken Muldrew. > > > > > > : http://fer3.com/arc/m2.aspx?i=118487 > > >
