    If this is the case, you are probably being generous as to the sextant's accuracy.  While some models give markings to the 0.1' of arc (6 arcseconds), the best sextant accuracy I've seen even advertised is about 9 arcseconds, and some up to 20 arcseconds.  With current production, metal sextants you are looking at 10 to 20 arcseconds.
     
    I agree that your practical accuracy, which is much more dependent on the user and environmental conditions than the instrument, will be fairly close.

    The precision between the 50mm len on a 10 mp camera vs. a sextant is simply comparing the minimum of 0.1 moa on the sextant's micrometer drum with the 0.4 moa of a single pixel width for the 50mm / 10 mp camera system. Practical accuracy between the camera and sextant seem to be very close in spite of the precision difference.
