Lacking any working scopes on my 'new' old sextant, I headed downtown, 8 inch Dobbs in tow, to do a little 'sidewalk astronomy'. What a wonderful response. Over 100 people looked through my scope and just looked UP for the first time in their lives. How wonderful, how easy it is to share our love of the heavens with 'normal' people. Everyone was delighted. Many had never looked through a telescope or binocs before. Many had never paid ANY attention to OUR moon. And certainly no one had ever seen Jupiter's moons before. All were in view thru my 40 mm wide angle eyepiece. So I asked them how many moons they see. Nasty trick- ALL of them forgot to count OUR Moon.
