The preface to the 1983 edition of Nories Tables includes the following comment about the Ports of the World section:
"Over 6,000 entries were needed for the 4,000 ports, the position of each being checked on the chart."
In the pre-gnss era the questions 'what chart' and 'what datum' probably did not arise. Norie gives the lat and long to one moa which I assume is adequate to locate an unknown port any where in the world. Raper (1906) has a list of maritime positions rather than Ports of the World. That probably explains why Raper includes Elephant Island, South Georgia and Castle Point but Norie does not.
