In response to questions on the list, I've corresponded with the designer of the analemma at the University of Puget Sound. The analemma works at clock noon (standard time), not at local noon which is about 10 minutes later. As a result it is offset slightly to the west (remember, it's on a south wall and sunlight is being reflected onto it from a mirror) and also slightly tilted. The designer sent me a Word document that contains both a layman's explanation of the analemma and a sketch of it. If anyone is interested a copy, please contact me off-list.
