Re: Wrinkles In Practical Navigation by Lecky

OK, let me describe my copy more completely.
1919 edition, with a photo portrait of Lecky on the frontpiece, 136 illustrations and plates,
(Some illustration in color, BTW), no marks or spots, I would call this condition
"excellent for this age", sound hard cover, not like they make today.
The book has a little mark inside the cover (Exlibris): Max Kuner Co.,
Chronometer and watch makers, 804 1-st Ave, Seattle, and a name A. Ahrens written on it.

I bought it from a used book shop through Amazon, don't remember exactly how much,
but if it were much I would remember:-)

    Alex.

As Alex says you can probably get a free copy somewhere or other but if
anyone is interested in buying a really top class 1910 edition (School prize
from HMS Conway) just email me. It is late Wednesday night with me tomorrow
I will get some photos together. I will send to anyone who wants to check
    this out.

I did not buy this fine book cheap so if you are not interested in the
antique value (i.e. you just want the contents in any readable form) then
    this will not interest you.

Sorry for jumping on the bandwagon here but someone on the List (No
apology Frankthat is just how a lot of us think of the group be it archaic
or not) may be interested in getting a chance to purchase something more than
    just the numbers.

    Kinch.

      _____

There are many fold outs, drawings, maps etc. in the Wrinkles. The list of
illustrations occupies 3 pages in my edition.
My experience with print on demand was strictly negative.
In most cases such book (sold by Amazon) was simply unreadable,
and I had to return it.

This happened with Gould's book on chronometer, for example. It has 1/4 of the pages completely black.
I tried to replace, and they could not.
Finally I found a readable copy free on the Internet.

    Alex.

There are quite a few printings and editions of Lecky's Wrinkles. There may be
a fold-out in one or more of those, but nothing worth worrying about. A
print-on-demand copy for $20 or less is certainly a reasonable investment.
It's an excellent book. Have you already downloaded a PDF copy of it? Do that
    FIRST!

There are also a great variety of companies that do print-on-demand. Check
with them to make sure that a standard page with diagrams will print properly
(to avoid the problem Jackson describes) and verify that they are using the
exact pdf edition that you want.
