The Pasha Bulker, for such is the name of this ill-fated 40,000 tonne bulk coal carrier, remains firmly wedged on Nobbys Beach at Newcastle, although I don't think anyone underestimates the difficulties involved in dragging it off there. The most powerful tugs in the land, from Sydney and Melbourne, have arrived and are now standing by as operations continue. Although the hull has been partially breached it is hoped the inner hull is unaffected. Another gale has been forecast for this weekend. So far it is just raining. This sorry episode has added a new phase to the language, donated by the surfing and youth culture of Newcastle. 'Doing a Pasha' means just landing somewhere unexpectedly and hanging out, despite being clearly uninvited and unwelcome. Being an awkward guest, difficult to get rid of. LOL! Pasha International was the last shipping company I was contracted with when I was actively going to sea working the big shipping rigs. Good company to work with. The company knows how to take care of its officers and rates and the company vessels I sailed on (7 years total with Pasha Int.) were well maintained and up to date. It could have been any ship from any shipping firm that ran aground. But it did give me a chuckle hearing "Doing a Pasha". --~--~---------~--~----~------------~-------~--~----~ To post to this group, send email to NavList@fer3.com To , send email to NavList-@fer3.com -~----------~----~----~----~------~----~------~--~---
