    Frank,

I did use a table of Sun's Declination by Date, which gave 16°41' for 9 Nov.  Is the table wrong?

I didn't use Stella, not even a little bit.  I treated the problem as if I was in the 1800's.  I used the equivalent of the Ethiopics or Sailing Directions.  Even in the back of 1849 Bowditch, there is a table of ports by latitude and longitude.  So instead of manual scanning, I had Google provide me a list of Pacific atolls with S16°41'.

From there, it was easy.  Not that many with a close southerly latitude.  The second hit was for 16°43'.  I checked that in Google maps, and the shape lined up.  Turns out that the lagoon is fairly large, so it was okay to change the latitude to match the declination, which meant still in the lagoon.

It took longer to type this email out than to figure the problem out! ;)

How was Stella going to solve this?

    Brad

For a little more nitpicking, I said November 9! So...

Didn't you use "Stellaaaa!!" to find it??
