Sara and Dan, > I am looking for a really good used sextant > in the under $400 range. I can think of only one possibility to get such a sextant that satisfies your conditions. Buy an SNO-T from a Russian/Ukrainian/Baltic seller on e-bay. The general agreement (at least on this list) seems to be that this is a "high quality sextant". That is comparable to Freiberger, Cassens-Plath and Tamaya. For a NEW Freiberger/Cassens/Plath or Tamaya you expect to pay well over $1000. And an SNO-T can be still bought "new" on E-bay, in the sense that it is made in 1980-s but still in the factory packaging and not used. They are frequently available on E-bay for $300+ but you pay a non-trivial amount for shipping and money transfer. (They don't accept PayPal or credit cards). These Russian/Ukrainian/Baltic sellers seems to be honest and reliable and I can recommend you one or two which I personally tested. Alex. P.S. If you are not a "high precision"/Lunars fan, and if you are satisfied with the accuracy needed for the "usual small boat navigation" you may consider also the older Russian model, SNO-M. It is of more traditional design, and cann be bought even cheaper on e-bay. --~--~---------~--~----~------------~-------~--~----~ To post to this group, send email to NavList@fer3.com To , send email to NavList-@fer3.com -~----------~----~----~----~------~----~------~--~---
