My favorite CN book by far, although I am not acquainted with many recent ones, is "Celestial for the Cruising Navigator" by Merle B. Turner, published about 1986. Turner is very thorough and his work is not a cook-book. Unlike many technical works in other areas it would be very difficult to condense his book further.
Just the recommendation of a hobbyist.
