Martin- One might suggest a Palm Pilot or other PDA would be sufficient to replace all the books and tables normally needed. Two AAA cells will power it for several weeks of ordinary occassional use. There are those who become violently ill at the concept of using a pocket computer with sextants...but the Palm is generally polite and well behaved, and when it is dropped it behaves very much like a traditional sextant would, i.e. "CRACK! tinkle, tinkle." There are inexpensive durable waterproof pouches made for the Palm, and neckstraps, but I'd still prefer mine to be kept below deck.
