Peter Fogg exhorting us to get out and practice: ... > Try it - often (the good weather is returning to the northern hemishere) > and let us all know your results. lately I have been using my Astra IIIB. I have tuned up the mirrors so there is no error. I can take sights with it well enough if I get to the coast or SF Bay. but in my backyard here in Sunnyvale (California) I have been using the bubble horizon. the bubble is "sticky" - some times it doesn't move even though the sextant is rotating up or down - but I have learned to use it and get sun sights within 5' consistently. experience and "feel" is key here. when I get a good sight it just feels right, and the error of the reduced sights usually match. I won't try plotting my feelings... -- these are the good old days Cliff Sojourner cls@employees.org
