    Patrick:

Re 229, and other publications too, I also am something of a scrounger. I have volume 3, also volume 1 at home, the latter hiding someplace. Both are government editions I picked up at book sales during the wooden boat show, beginning of May, at Baufort NC. I might have $20 in both of them. I keep looking for others, however no luck in finding them. If I understand correctly, one need have only the volume covering latitudes one will be traversing. If you come up with those 4 of 6 in total, for $50, that would be a find, especially the Government editions, hard bound and heavy.

As to their taking up the space and weight equivalent to 1/2 case of beer, that might be forgiveable. Taking up the equivalent space and weight of a half case of scotch would be an entirely different story, especially Johnnie Walker Black.

As to this Bygrave slide rule Gary mentioned, that begins to sound interesting. Perhaps I will try makiong one. If you do, let us know how and if it works, would you?

    Alan
