    If you wish, you can go back as far as -6000 when the declination of Polaris was 50d.

    Alas, it looks like it doesn't change back that far.   It still has Polaris
    at around 89 degrees declination.   In 1000 AD I'm pretty sure it's
    something like 6 degrees off that.
