A lifeboat sextant will get you within piloting range of mid-ocean island groups, like Bermuda or the Azores. A C.Plath won't get you into a fog-bound harbor. The errors on my Kelvin and Hughes are: 30 deg +10" 60 deg +10" 90 deg 0" 120 deg -30" These are small compared to the errors from the motion of a small boat, 36 feet in my case. If you are taking sights o an aircraft carrier they might be taken into acount. HTH Rodney Myrvaagnes J36 Gjo/a For your upscale SUV: Dingle-balls hand knit of natural Icelandic yarn
