Something doesn't seem right about his method. He looks to be plotting along the z axis on a sun chart that looks to be in reference to the x-y axis.
look at the "solar pathfinder". It's also a toy, but some academics are attempting to use it in research. The problem that was identified with the solar pathfinder is they cannot reproduce the exact results each time. I think the solar pathfinder's sun charts are distorted or too encompassing in their range. There should be one for each degree or 1/2 degree.
