Hi George
It was made probably in early 1947, rather late for a vernier sextant, though I have one by Hughes and Son dated 1939. As you probably know, Hughes collaborated with Kelvin, Bottomley and Baird during WWII and merged formally in 1947
$435 seems rather a lot for a sextant of that age in poor condition. If you do acquire it and need any help with restoration contact me off list and I'll try to help.
