    Re: political messages on Navigation-L

Since it seems that people are going to read into this message whatever they choose, I am forced to be more specific and state clearly that I was refering to George H's message at the end of April. Even he knew it was inappropriate on this list and so there was no need to go into it further. Nevertheless, NONE of these political messages belong on the list. NONE OF THEM.

As for signatures, that's a judgement call. Stating one's affiliation in an organization is not unreasonable, but it is also not relevant. Listing numerous affiliations is even less relevant. If a long signature with a clear political agenda like that becomes a nuisance to other list members, then there is reason to CONSIDER changing one's signature. At least make it more succinct.

    And now George H writes:
"particularly when those organisations have somewhat unsavoury connotations."

But now all you're doing George is --yet again-- adding YOUR political "tastes" to the list. Whether you find those organizations savory or unsavory is not relevant in any way.

And now for the obligatory personal political revelation:
I'm a Republican. I believe in free speech. But I also believe in reasonable accomodations required for civil discussion. After all, this is merely an e-mail list. Let's not take it too seriously.

I don't think that ssking people to keep political discussions off the list is inappropriate. Calling people childish names is... well... somewhat inappropriate. Oh and Dave, where is the "navigational wisdom" that YOU have contributed to this list in the past few weeks? Let's see... checking the archives... Nope. Nothing at all. If you've got some navigational wisdom to share, please do so. I am sure everyone would welcome some navigation! Be proactive, not reactive.
