Wolfgang, you wrote: "When checking my e-mail on my return I was surprised that the discussion about the causes of Sir Clowdisley's shipwreck(ignorance of longitude or ignorance of latitude) was still raging." It's the 300th anniversary of one of the most famous shipwrecks in the history of navigation. I certainly hope it retains some continuing interest for list members... The story you quoted that the crew must have been 'drunk for joy' to have made such a blunder in navigation seems to have been popular for a few decades in the late 18th century. I can't find an original source for it. -FER --~--~---------~--~----~------------~-------~--~----~ To post to this group, send email to NavList@fer3.com To , send email to NavList-@fer3.com -~----------~----~----~----~------~----~------~--~---
