    As I recall, the French tried to take care of time and the calendar as
    well as revamping physical measurements.  But they screwed up so badly
    that their ideas didn't get adopted.  Two things kept them from
    revamping the calendar: first, they named the months after French
    weather ("rainy", "sunny", etc.).  Second, they forgot about the
    mystical significance of the number 7 in the Christian week.
