As I recall, the French tried to take care of time and the calendar as well as revamping physical measurements. But they screwed up so badly that their ideas didn't get adopted. Two things kept them from revamping the calendar: first, they named the months after French weather ("rainy", "sunny", etc.). Second, they forgot about the mystical significance of the number 7 in the Christian week. -- Geoff Kuenning geoff@cs.hmc.edu http://www.cs.hmc.edu/~geoff/ There are some Perl programs that look like nothing so much as line noise. -- Margaret Fleck
