    Re: wind effected by tide?

    Thomm,

We noticed at spring tides the wind seemed more variable in speed or "gusty",
but because of this variance it was difficult to determine if it was actually
stronger on average. In general, the wind was about 15-20 knots from Bahia
north to Recife, becoming stronger toward Natal. After rounding Pta do
Calcanhar the wind strength increased to about 25-30 knots producing fairly
large sea as it blew 24 hours every day. In fact, this was the only time we
damaged any equipment, breaking a jib pole when the boat rolled too much in
these higher seas. No doubt the strongest winds we encountered along the NE
coast were at Fortaleza, as testified by the large sand dunes along the shore
    and around the harbor.

Where in Brazil are you located?
