I enjoy using a sextant with artificial horizon when I travel (on land), to try to find my location. Whan I have calculated my position I check this against a map or gps. The idea is to get as close to the gps reading as possable. I have been using a davis mark 15 sextant but have been disapointed that it needs to be recolumnated before each use. And the plastic construction just dosent feel right. I also have a lancaster mark l X bubble sextant which works well enough after I rebuilt the bubble chamber and re -lubricated the gearing, and a ball recording sextant which I have not yet been able to get to "record" yet because of dried out ink pad. I am looking for a really good used sextant in the under $400 range.
