Andrs: I first found a discussion of using the Mark V sextant in "Self- Contained Celestial Navigation with H.O. 208, John S. Letcher, International Marine, 1977, ISBN 0-87742-082-3." I had access to a Mark V at the time and gave it a try. The bubble was VERY hard to hold in the circle while taking a sight, it jiggled all over. It made the sights using the bubble unreliable. It needed extensive modifications to make it handy for small boat use, Letcher says he paid $18.00 for his (1977). In 1978 you could get a Navy Mark V sextant surplus for $50.00. BUT, at the price now being asked for them I would by a Marine sextant. Dan Hogan WA6PBY dhhogan@nav.cnchost.com Navigation-L: http://nav.cnchost.com
