Like you, I have spent enough time at sea doing Piloting, Navigation and Celestial Navigation. After retirement from the Coast Guard I taught the same in small classes to know what a fix is and isn't. And how to use a 3rd (and 4th if needed) LOP to verify a fix. I started my professional life as a mathematician so this discussion of the DOCH was of some interest to me until they went off into the wonderland of statistics. You can prove anything you want using statistics - I've seen it done too many times. Semper Paratus Chief! I look forward to anything else that you have to pass on. derrick
