My thanks for the Empire level suggestion. Over the weekend I did two sets of three sun sights where intercepts averaged 2nm and 1.6nm. I did side by side comparisons of 2 manufactured precision levels with bases I made myself and they averaged 0.6nm and 0.6nm for two sets of 3 sun sights. The leveling mirror base was mde from a plastic bar cutting board, brass therad inserts and carriage bolts. The total costs for the "Tru-Blu" level and the mirror base was about $40. The precision levels appear to give better results but dollar for dallar, $10 versus $50, the Empire levels are very good. If you are chasing accuracy obsessively, as I do, go with precision levels.
