    Hi, Peter -

I had the honor of discussing the Kepler and Tycho work with Own Gingerich himself last year.   He showed me some of the ephemerides of that era and described to me the "Martian crisis", along with some of the more minor 'crises'.   In particular, I was interested in how Ptolemy's system was used to create ephemerides and where that broke down.   He described this work and his analysis using the various tables in his collection, which is quite something to see!

    Best,

    John H.

Two articles from the latest "Physics Today" may be of interest to this list.  One is about the prediction of tides on D-day, the other one about Tycho and Kepler, including a discussion of the refraction correction.
