    Introducing Almak
    From: Jeremy C
    Date: 2011 Jan 20, 18:35 EST
So I was looking for an unusual star to shoot and noticed on my Skymate Pro program that the auxiliary star Almak was going to be transiting to the north during twilight.   Having never shot Almak at all, I decided to try an ex-meridian of this star.

Almak was a bit hard to see and I had to wait until later twilight to see it, but there it was in my scope, just where it should have been.

The hardest part of this sight, which I did using tables, was finding Almak in the NA.  I never liked trying to find them in the star tables in the back, but it's good practice.

    Here's the data:
Ex-meridian of the auxiliary star Almak.
     Time: 20h 05m 20s
    Lat 7d 10.6'S
    Long 72d 28.6E
    HoE 106 ft
    ZD -6

    Hs 40d 36.8'

My latitude by observation was 7d 11.4'S which isn't too bad considering the time of observation on a dim star.
