You are fully right in the sense that some Calculators are EXTREMELY time consuming if you want to learn how to master their Programming Language. In my own opinion and experience, the HP48GX/HP49G series belong to such a family, while there is a good number of much more User Friendly Calculators programming-wise ...

I would never have written my software on a HP48GX !!! Far too difficult and time-consuming !

On the other hand, the HP41 is just the (grand)-daughter of the then very much celebrated, and nonetheless still quite simple HP25C.

HP41CV/CX/CY simply equals : " HP25C + alphanumerics + lots of Memory + a quite nice and comprehensive set of standard (very) clever functions".

The Beauty of the astounding development works Jean-François Garnier and HratsProgrammer achieved is that they "ported" the HP41 onto both the HP48GX (HrastProgrammer) or onto a laptop computer running under MSDOS (i.e. incredibly fast : 800 times faster than a conventional HP41. This is Jean-François's achievement). It definitely prevented the HP41 from becoming extinct.

Therefore, when currently using my Handheld HP48GX, I am just and simply using a Super-Super-Duper HP41CX running already at 3 times the speed of a standard HP41. It makes all Celnav computations fully practicable on Board a moving vessel, including Lunars or Occultations. Since HrastProgrammer's HP41X (the Commercial name he has given to his improved HP41) runs on a Standard HP48GX (HP41X "takes full control of" and "forces" the HP48GX into behaving exactly like an HP41 ... that's incredible !!!), such HP41X has also immediate access to the quite significant memory storage permitted on the HP48GX - up to 5 Mb - definitely a "huge" storage compared to the standard 32K ROM of a HP41.

HrstProgrammer's front page even includes a link ( http://www.hrastprogrammer.com/AntoineDC10.jpg ) to a picture of Kermit :-) then flying his trusty DC10-30 I-CGIA from CARGOITALIA ... It was at the beginning of the flight and I was most probably checking then all FUEL/TIME computations - again thanks to my HP41CY/48GX fully visible here ... of course !!! - before crossing the Atlantic on a Milan-Houston sector, ... 'nd t'was most probably a full load flite since we had barely reached FL300 !
