Capt. PVH Weems also wrote, in 1961, a "Space Navigation Handbook", at the US Naval Academy, for the pilot class in space navigation. The number on this text is NAVPERS 92988. It also has a US Government Printing Office number: 1962 O-628762. In it, Weems discloses his patent for a "Method of Space Navigation" US#3,002,278. The book also describes some special devices (sextant like) that help to define where you are. Apparently, this book was designed for test pilots on the way to the moon, since the systems described will only work on a practical basis when in close proximity to the earth, moon system. He was called out of retirement to lead the development of this course, textbook and the system.
