If memory serves Loran was shut down in February of 2010.
I've not purchased paper charts for a while, and was curious to see if Loran TD lines were still present. Current online images of NOAA Great Lakes charts still have the lines, as well as the Loran Linear Interpolater.
Old technology, but some argue a viable backup where available for GPS, especially for recreation/small commercial vessels. Navlist members might suggest that is a sextant's job ;-)
Is it too much of a hassel/expense to remove them, or are they left there just in case the mothballed stations are needed/funded again?
