Seems to me the least squares technique most in the spirit of HO 249 is to take a weighted, eyeball average of your star fix & planet fix. Or, if the precession & nutation correction is small compared to the scatter of your LOP intersections, forget about applying the correction & just eyeball average all LOPs. I'm not trying to be flippant -- just seems peculiar to reduce sights with HO 249 if you're concerned about a least squares fit. Why not use the least squares method in the back of the Almanac?
