As I mentioned a couple of days ago, I was scheduled for an eye exam. Through a fortunate coincidence, the doctor is himself a sailor and has even used a sextant as part of a course at Mystic Seaport. I explained my concern about possible retinal damage from doing sun sights and he specifically made a check for signs of damage. Short and simple: there are no signs of solar damage. I do sights with estimated altitudes and some sights are started by bringing the sun down to the horizon. As always with medical comments: A) I am not a doctor and B) your experiences may vary.
