    I should have added to my previous note that ship's time is usually the
    zone time of the vessel's longitude and used for domestic and watchkeeping
    purposes on board.
    Watch time is the time the watch read which might not be the same as GMT if
    the watch ran fast or slow. When I started my navigation for example, the
    chronometer watch had to be rated by comparing its time with GMT over
    perhaps a fortnight to find what was called 'its going' it did not matter
    really if it ran fast or slow so long as the rate of change was constant.
    Knowing the rate of change the watch time could then be corrected to GMT.
    
    How many of you out there who shun electronic navaids are relying on
