The manual, and the help file, both tell me that LINEST is for fitting straight lines to data, whereas I need a polynomial (quadratic), fit. Which must be available, internally within Excel, in order for it to produce that quadratic trend line on a graph.. I wonder whether this difficulty relates to the old version of Excel that I'm using (2000). Perhaps, later development has made that LINEST function more versatile.Or perhaps there's a different function, for fitting polynomials. Anyway, thanks to Dave's help, I'm now quite a lot further ahead.
