Ronald van Riet, from the Netherlands, described his interest in navigation and particularly in slide rules. First, as a member I would like to say "welcome aboard, Ronald". We have a mixture of interests, at sea, in the air, and on land. All aspects of navigation are of interest, though we try to keep to traditional rather than GPS navigation. I wonder if Ronald is in contact with Otto van Poelje, at ovpoelje@chello.nl, who is a member of an international society devoted to slide rules, and who has occasionally contributed to this list. There have been articles, in recent issues of Navigator's Newsletter, on the Bygrave slide rule, a cylindrical rule intended for solving air navigation problems, of the 1920s, and its German equivalent (1930s). The principal author was Geoffrey Kolbe, a frequent contributor to this list. More details available if requested.
