Great idea Greg. I am going to try this with a Bris sextant and hand bearing compass.
Attached is a pic of a pelorus acquired from a ship bound for the scrapyard. It looks antique but is of fairly recent construction. It is solid brass, fully gimballed and weighs 2.8kg. Both sighting vanes are hinged horizontally, so can be used for both ordinary and sun shadow bearings.
The Bris sextant is kept in its soon to be very rare film cannister case, as supplied by Sven Yrvind (Lundin).
