3) You flatter me. I did not compare my results with the NA before sending them to you. There is an appreciable difference, so I will check the theodolite vertical circle bubble. By the way, atmospheric pressure was 762.4 mm Hg.
4) The theodolite does indeed measure angles and zero degrees is an angle, so when the theodolite is set to zero on the vertical circle it can be used as a level. My wife held a surveying staff at the water's edge and I sighted on it to get height of eye. I then immediately took a reading on the horizon to the side of the staff.
