Re: Old Sextant on German money

    Dear George,
I examined again the German 10 mark bill and Fig. 45 in Ifland,
and I came to the same conclusions as before.
    1. The sextant on the bill and the sextant in Fig. 45
    indeed have some similarities
(besides the "pillar construction" they have only 3 index
filters while the usual number is 4), but they are not
    "remarkably similar" as Ifland says.
    The frame construction is different.
The sextant on the bill has two horizontal bars,
and these bars are assembled in the way which reminds more
picture 44 rather than 45. The handle is also different.
    2. The sextant on the bill definitely does not have any horizon
filters. Which only confirms my opinion that this was drawn from
a real sextant (which did not have horizon filters) rather then from
    a picture in a book.
    3. The artist is very accurate with all details.
This leaves open the question what sort of strange index mirror we see
in this picture, and what is the misterious part under the horizon
