Maybe slightly off topic but marine archeologists using robots and cameras have found, almost perfectly preserved, what is likely a Venetian trading ship on the bottom of the Black Sea. They say that fresh water rivers create a covering layer of fresh water on top of an oxygen deprived cold salt water environment that preserved everything down to coils of rope. Many high resolution images were stitched together by computers to give very clear pictures of the ship in its original resting place and original condition.
