1583 Dutch Almanac and cross staff
    From: Bob Crawley

Frank and others- I would have joined your zoom tonight to ask about this but it's past my bedtime. If you are short of a topic here's one.

This page attached looks like it relates to a cross staff. The date seems to be just before John Davis invented the Back Staff (1594) which is why I think it a cross staff.

I've translated what I can. Presumably, the Stars are read facing them and the Sun facing away but I'm not sure, this has confused me.

There is an almanac and tide tables. This was well before Tobias Meyer so I'm not sure how good the Lunar data is. There are two, differing, sets of solar declination tables.

Is it worthwhile pursuing this or will it already have been investigated somewhere? I'm tempted to try and work out the tide tables. I can't find much as I don't speak Dutch.

    Have fun
