    Hello again, Carl,

Actually, it was made in 1943.

Whether I win the lottery or not, thank you for the kind offer.  I know this lovely old White will find a good home with whatever NavLister gets it.

    Fair winds,

    Mike

Does anyone want a 1946 US Coast Guard Sextant?  In 1974 I acquired it as the Coast Guard Cutter Courier was being decommissioned.  The Courier had several lives, one of which was to be the mobile transmitter of The Voice of America from 1952-64.  Technically it is US Gov't property, and I was givenit it under less than honorable circumstances.  But I have emailed the Coast Guard seeking to return it, and have received no answer.  In any case I doubt that they want it, and surely by now the statue of limitations has long since applied.  It has been in my garage in a box of "old stuff" for some 46 years now, and I want to get rid of it.  As far as I can tell, it was manufactured in 1946 by the David White Company, makers of "White's Improved Surveying Instruments" in Milwaukee.  If anyone wants it, I would gladly send it to them for free in the US.  If someone outside the US wants it, I'll have to check into the cost of shipping before I commit to the "for free" part.  But, in any case, I don't want to be paid for the instrument itself.  If no one wants it, I guess it'll just have to go into the trash, and that seems such a shame.

I'll be checking this website daily for a while, or if you like you can contact me at mathcaptain@gmail.com.  I live in southern California.
